This is a series of illustrations created for five poetic end-of-life clinical narratives published in The Oxford Handbook of Age and Aging in History. These images visualize conversations with literary Artist in Residence Dr. Marcia Brennan in the palliative care unit, capturing the emotional and human dimensions of aging and end-of-life care. Forthcoming from Oxford University Press in 2026, the work serves as a resource for geriatricians, humanists, and historians, bridging clinical insight with the humanities through visual storytelling.

The Colors of Life: SEL for Young Readers

A series of illustrations presents color as a vehicle for knowledge and empowerment, fostering mindfulness, wisdom, and creative expression in The Colors of Life: Exploring Life Experience Through Emotion and Color. These artworks guide readers through humanistic and emotional themes, pairing visual storytelling with the text to make abstract concepts accessible to middle school audiences. The book, published by Routledge in 2024, engages Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) strategies to complement STEM-oriented education, and is accompanied by Approaching SEL Through Emotion and Color with Advanced Learners: A Companion Guide to The Colors of Life, which provides activities for parents and teachers to extend the learning experience.

Katerina’s Visit to the Hospital

The illustrations in Katerina’s Visit to the Hospital use warm, engaging imagery to make the medical environment approachable for young readers. Created for a bilingual English–Spanish children’s book, the artwork reflects diversity in medicine and visually supports the goal of restoring patient autonomy and health literacy from an early age. Each scene introduces hospital spaces, staff, and procedures in a way that fosters trust, reduces anxiety, and encourages children to feel confident in their own care experiences.
